We live in a technological world, which is growing exponentially. New inventions are being developed, ideas are being shared, it's truly quite amazing how we're able to communicate in this day and age. Just to think about how young the internet is, and what it's become in such a sort time; it's phenomenal.
Now with all of this power, one must question where it's all going to go? We obviously are no longer in control of the digital world. We've developed software that you can have a simple conversation with; what's next? Before you know it robots will be a common household object and ingenious AI that can almost replicate human thought. That being said, whose to say (submit your own sci-fi plot) couldn't happen in the near future! The worst part is that we have so many fucking plots to select from now, it's impossible to prepare for whatever sort of uprising the machines might be plotting. It's frightening to think about, but it's possible. There are those of us that go through our everyday lives thinking: Holy shit, computers could take over the whole world and enslave the human race. It really causes one to panic, and I certainly think about it all the time. So whenever I get flustered, when I get the feeling like we might be overrun by a bunch of machines, I remember this one fact (well a story) that keeps me calm. And for those of you who share my burden, perhaps this will help you:
In the years and years that computers have existed many improvements have been made; what consists of a cheap-ass dollar store calculator today, took a hold building to store. We're talking size, space, speed, and an ever increasing amount of useless applications that get thrown in with each new PC model (yes, thank you for the improvements and then making them obsolete with a bunch of shit. Does anyone even use the bulletin board?). These updates are continuous. However, in all this time, all of these updates, it still takes over a half an hour to turn on my laptop and play a fucking DVD. It's not an old model, the dvd isn't scratched (brand-spanking-new) but by the time I had finished writing all of this out, it had been over an hour. You want to crash Skynet? Pop in a copy of The Venture Bros. and you'll have plenty of time to devise a foolproof plan. Let me tell you something, technology may be expanding and updating, but it sure as shit isn't going much of anywhere quickly.
