During the Great Depression Mount Rushmore was constructed following the design of Gutzon Borglum, Lincoln Borglum, and Korczak Kiolkowski. Where it remains as an impressive work of art, those portrayed on the mountain seem rather dated and aren't one to inspire me. Music, as it is to many others, is highly influential to my creative process; thus it seems only logical to honor those that have inspired me by replacing the original inhabitants with individuals that I consider to be my founding fathers. The biggest problem was narrowing it down to four artists. In theme with the original work, I chose only Male (sorry Norah Jones...) American artists (sorry Alex Turner, Damon Albarn...), even then it was a difficult decision (sorry Jack White, John McCrea...).
The selected few: Beck, Brian Burton, Isaac Brock, Conor Oberst.
This was the biggest pain in the ass and I had the least to show for it. The slowest part of the project by far. |
Beck: the easiest to draw |
Brian Burton: my hero and greatest influence. Of the four, I think he turned out the best |
Conor Oberst: What a bitch to paint |
Mt. Rockmore
I'd like to thank each of these four for all that they've done
as well as all the other artists that kept and continue to keep me company
Hamlet, sorry for all the long nights, I know you're nocturnal and the light bothered you.
